The Tragedy of Bimbo Ogbonna

Death of 36year old raises many questions

I can’t seem to make sense of this tragedy of an alleged story of love gone sour between Ikechukwu Ogbonna and Bimbo, his Yoruba born wife, who forsook her education in pursuit of love. I will raise some questions raging in my head later.

Stay alive

My recommendation when ever there’s violence in relationship is for the spouses to stay alive first. I also advise families to get involved and save what they can of the relationship. Finally, I advocate that the police should be involved when all other efforts fail.

It does appear that these two were deeply in love. However, if the stories making the rounds are to be believed, there’s cause for concern.

Did IVD capture this girl with juju?

Is this a case of crazy love or fetishism?

Bimbo is born into a house where education is highly cherished. Yet she is the only one of six siblings not to have university education.

She died at thirty-six 36 after twenty-one years of marriage. This puts her age at the time of marriage at fifteen (15). So she was underaged when she met and married Ikechukwu Ogbonna. Clearly, this is not likely. It should have been a straight case of messing around with an underaged girl. You could go to jail for decades for that kind of offence in Lagos today.

Was she just a black sheep of her family, who is adventurous and exploring her sexuality? I started out very early so I can imagine that there are many kids who start experimenting with sex early, often to their detriment. But they often learn their lessons soon and with help, often made amends. Bimbo seems not to have learned instead she dug deeper and deeper.

This is why I am wondering whether she was under the influence. Drug and booze appeared to be rampant in this marriage, sadly, but under another more invidious influence…

Throttling to death: was it destiny or tragedy?

Listening to this lady’s story you would get a sense of what Greek tragedies sounded like. She sacrificed her education for love; stole from her parents to support her lover; and escaped from her safehouse, where she was taken to to deescalate what the parents correctly read to be disaster ahead.

She goes on to have five children for the same man and practices voodooism to help her man become rich and famous.

This is more than my mind can comprehend in one day. My worry is that this sounds so unnatural that Ikechukwu Ogbonna may have some questions to answer as to how he first turned this girl’s head upside down. Or the parents how they got it so wrong with this child. I mean if they could get it right with the five other children, what happened with this one?

Her five (5) children had been made spectators to incidents that included loaded gun(s), sleeping outside, breaking of cars, and heads, and daily abuse. Yet, no one had enough guts to get the police to do their job?

When marriage fails

When a marriage is toxic, the next thing to be salvaged is children. Unfortunately, no one had the guts to save the children: not Bimbo’s parents; not Ikechukwu Ogbonna’s family; not their friends; not even the government.

Bimbo cried for help: none came.

Her five (5) children had been made spectators to incidents that included loaded gun(s), sleeping outside, breaking of cars, and heads, and daily abuse. Yet, no one had enough guts to get the police to do their job?

Sad! Very sad!!!
