The Hakimi Achraf Controversy: Mother or Wife?

Who should keep a man’s wealth? The age-old egg and hen debate ignited by Moroccan player Hakimi rages.

Hakimi and his estranged wife

Achraf Hakimi, a football player for Paris Saint-Germain, and actress Hiba Abouk’s divorce has taken a new turn since she learned that the Moroccan international’s assets are in his mother’s name. This has sparked debates everywhere on whether his decision to put 80% of his wealth in his mother’s charge was wise.

Mummy’s Boy or foolish husband?

The action has made some label him a ‘Mummy’s Boy‘, yet others have called him immature, even foolish.

Should young men who run into sudden wealth like this player trust their mothers or their partners to help manage the new found abundance? This is the question that has broken the blogosphere.

Depending on your persuasion to life, the young man’s reality is different. He is barely twenty-four (24). His wife is much more older. She is thirty-six (36). They have been married for three plus years; so he was barely out his diapers when he was sucked into marriage. Before then, he had started earning fabulously well and, unlike many of his wayward age-mates, he got his mother to help him shepherd the huge resources that were roaring beyond his tender imagination.

Career history

He started out early. At only 17 years he had been called up to play for the Moroccan under 17. He has also played for some of the elite clubs like Real Madrid, Borussa Dortmund, and Inter Milan. He currently plays for the premier French club PSG and he’s one of their highest earners at almost $1m per month.

Before wife…

Before anyone condemns the football star for being unfair to his wife, it worth remembering that he had always had his mother’s hand in harnessing his early fortunes. As child millionaire, he always needed a more experienced person to help guide his spending in order that not to derail.

His choice of an older woman for wife may be his search for another mother figure at home. Why he did not or could not graduate that marriage to be a replacement is not known. However, it seems a wise decision he took early in his professional life that helped to steer him away from wasteful spending.

Is Achraf a gold digger?

It is easy to point at women as gold diggers. As a matter of fact, more women are portrayed as gold diggers in popular culture but this footballers case will show whether he was an unscrupulous gold digger.

A Spanish Court involved in the divorce proceedings between both parties found that since the young football player had no wealth of his own, the wife whose wealth claim is nearly Two million ($2m), is richer than him, and should be the one to give her husband half of her wealth. Why?

By Spanish law, at the expiration of a marriage, both parties are to submit their financial records and list of belongings.

If in the view of the court the lady is richer than her husband, she’s expected to support her spouse with half of the wealth in her name. If the man is richer, the same condition applies to his poorer wife.

Where did Hakimi’s wealth go?

Would he take his poorer wife’s wealth or would he forfeit it to her and his two sons?

The football player has been earning a large amount of money since his teenage years. By estimation, his wealth is in the neighborhood of $15-20m.

In this regard, he should have been the one to pay his wife for support. But the law has ruled that since his wealth are saved in the name of his mom, he would be the beneficiary of his wife’s higher wealth.

Relationship enthusiasts are watching to see what he would do. Would he take his poorer wife’s wealth or would he forfeit it to her and his two sons?

Mother denies knowledge of wealth saved in her name

Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain defender, Achraf Hakimi’s mother, Saida Mouh has been reported to deny knowledge of the rumours that her son’s fortune was transferred into her name. Although she supports her son in whatever devices he had come up with to save himself from “that woman”, she may have opened a can of worms, if her reported denial is confirmed.

Is Hakimi hiding his wealth from tax? Legal implications

With his mother’s denial of knowledge of the arrangement, Hakimi may have been exposed to the likelihood that he was hiding his wealth under false covers in order to avoid paying taxes.

With his mother’s denial of knowledge of the arrangement, Hakimi may have been exposed to the likelihood that he was hiding his wealth under false covers in order to avoid paying taxes.

In that case, he may be exposing himself to criminal charges. But, there is another legal tangle: did Hakimi forge the bank documents in his mother’s name?

Saida Mouh may have opened the gate for a possible investigation of crime, to wit: perjury. Forging documents for the purpose of gaining official advantage is a crime in most jurisdictions and the Spanish courts have had running battles with other footballers like Neymar, Ronaldo and Lionel Messi over tax dodging offenses in the past.

Who wins: Hakimi, his wife or the law?

If their dogged investigation of the finances of previous financial crimes by other footballers in the past is anything to go by, then the last had not been heard of the Hakimi case. The only way to escape the inquisitorial Spanish Court is if the property held his mother’s name are not on Spanish soil.
