Lagos pastor Feyi Daniels sentenced to life imprisonment for raping assistant pastor and sexually assaulting church member

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence court today sentenced Feyi Daniels, the founder of iReign Christian Ministry in Lagos, to life imprisonment for raping his 23-year-old assistant pastor. He was also sentenced to 3 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old female member of his church.

Justice Rahman Oshodi, while stating that the prosecution established the ingredients of the two offences, described Daniels as “a liar who does not have any regard for truth.”

“I sentence you to life imprisonment to serve as a deterrent to others who abuse their spiritual calling and position,” Justice Oshodi told Daniels.

The rape occurred on September 8, 2019 at the cleric’s residence in Lekki. The victim, Daniels’ assistant pastor, had testified in court how he raped her while praying after she had followed him to his house along with some other church members as she had nowhere to stay in Lagos that night.

Oshodi discharged and acquitted Daniels on a separate count of rape of another female church member, stating that there was an element of consent. He was also acquitted on a charge of attempted rape of another member.

Daniels, who will now spend the rest of his life imprisoned at Kirikiri custodial facility, had faced an amended four-count charge bordering on rape, attempted rape and sexual assault of female members of his church.
