A man who had many previous heartbreaks went to the church to find another love, but the lady diverted the foreign money he had been sending her to sponsor her wedding to another man. Now she claims that the wedding funds and the sender are unknown entities as she has another wedding scheduled for February with Samuel, one month after she was supposed to get married to Ben. To make matters worse, she has with her the sum of N50m meant for a house building her long distance fiance had entrusted into her care. According to him, “Apart from the money for the wedding, I still sent some money for a project …I thought I was banking on my wife.”

No Evidence Of Remittance….
Samuel’s case is made worse by the fact that he kept no evidence of the millions he had sent to his church lady for the building. His quagmire: “How do I recover my money?”
Searching for evidence
MaryJaneTV presenter went to great lengths to obtain evidence. (There are actually three episodes in this series). She had to devise means of extracting confession of receipt of funds. When Jane was lured out to a secret location where, she was told her mother was hospitalised, she was furious and called Ben, pretending to be crippled, a bas**rd. When Ben enquired why she was acting strange, she warned that she would hit him so hard, he would regret ever knowing her. “What can you offer me, what can you offer me? You are a broke man! You are just useless” Jane blurted endlessly acting completely hostile.

After calling him a cripple, she mocked him querying how he hoped to get back the money he had sent to her warning him to forget that money.
Samuel Cancels Wedding
When the video made the rounds, Samuel her proposed husband was disappointed. He said everything began to make sense. He had been wondering how his wig-selling bride was able to afford a brand new house she was building in their names from the kind of business she was doing. She had also built another house in her village and Samuel could not believe his luck initially. Now the scales has fallen. He called off the wedding.

My Musings
In situations like this, emotions run high, and trust is shattered. Let’s break down some key points:
1. Engagement Ring Dilemma:
– Legally, an engagement ring is considered a **conditional gift**. Its condition is marriage – if the wedding doesn’t happen, the ring’s fate becomes a matter of debate.
– In some jurisdictions, courts apply the Conditional Gift Rule principle. If the receiver is at fault for calling off the engagement, they must return the ring. If the giver is at fault, then they forfeit the ring.
2. Samuel’s situation is complicated, especially without evidence of the millions he sent for the house building. Young men should stop embarrassing their parents and family with all these revelations of ill-grooming. How does a man transfer funds without keeping evidence of transactions? Long Distance Relationship (LDR) flourishes if accountability is built into it.
3. Jane’s Behavior:
– Jane’s actions are shameful for a church girl, hurtful and hostile. Her deception and diversion of funds are deeply problematic.
– Her mocking and insults towards Ben reveal her true character.
– Samuel’s decision to cancel the wedding is understandable given the circumstances🌟
