“Ashamed of what? You (Sonia) have broken my home.” As the drama was unfolding, the husband announced that the marriage was over.
How It Started
Philip Joseph had been hearing rumours about his wife’s infidelity. He thought it was impossible for his wife of seventeen (17) years to be cheating but sought the help of Soniaofficial TV to unravel the truth. A previous prank model was selected and husband and wife walked into an ambush carefully designed to lure his wife into exposing the truth.
Seven Hundred Thousand Naira Couple’s Bait
Sonia offered to give the couple the sum of Seven Hundred Thousand Naira if they would play a couple’s game. The wife is a fan of Sonia’s and immediately sensed something was amiss. She initially objected but was convinced this windfall would be spent buying her the gift her husband had promised. After the question and answer session, it was time to swap phones. Again, the wife objected. “Are you hiding anything from me?” her husband queried. “No! No! No!” She replied. After more cajoling and convincing, she accepted. Husband’s phone was checked by wife and he was clean. When the expression: I LOVE YOU was searched in her WhatsApp, a trove of nudes and several men showed up including one that the husband knew.
My Musings
The epidemic of infidelity is growing high. The chilling discoveries that online video pranksters are unearthing are earthshaking. Again it reminds us all on the need to verify the marriageability of all young ones before they say I DO! A few comments will help and I make them as follows:
Infidelity is a painful breach of trust in a marriage, but publicly humiliating someone and revealing their personal indiscretions without consent is not a constructive way to address the issue and actually leads to invasion of privacy issues. Litigation is possible and damages may be incurred, despite the public ridicule. It can create further trauma for the three children of the marriage and raise a spectre of doubt over paternity, damage the possibility of reconciliation, and could model unhealthy disclosure behaviours that now bother on touting.
The Way Forward
Although this woman has clearly been outed, and her conduct is despicable, there are too many sides that the SoniaOfficial exposure has not addressed. Some these are:
- How can this couple rebuild trust and intimacy after infidelity through counselling, open communication, and mutual understanding?
- What are constructive ways for them to address issues like the lack of emotional fulfilment that may be fueling infidelity?
- If they must end this relationship which The Bible indirectly supports, on the grounds of infidelity, can it be done with dignity, while avoiding public shaming?
- How can couples develop personal integrity and commitment within marriages?
